Muharraq Muharraq Muharraq Muharraq Muharraq

Muharraq appears like a rose surrounded by sea. It is said that it’s name was borrowed from the nickname Almuharraq after the Arabic poet of the ignorance days Umru Al Qays; as it is said that the name was an idol which was worshipped by Arab tribes; it was also believed that it is a name of a king; as that it is none of such claims.

Muharraq island is situated to the east of Manama, connected by three causeways. It was called Rafeen and was the capital of Bahrain from 1810 till 1923.

In this book you could see a vivid portrayal of the island from the ground, sea and from the air in over over 300 photos (12" x 8") covering the landscapes, buildings, people and important events of Muharraq spread over a period of 50 years.

The book also contains few photos taken by the father of Mr. Abdulla Alkhan, late Mr. Mohammad Abdul Rahman Alkhan the man who brought photography to this island
